The house was sold to Carel Gustaaf Falck (1716-1785) in 1764. He had a career in the VOC and moved through different ranks. He was a resident of Japara (modern-day Java) in 1744 and was later stationed in Tegal in 1748, also in Java. His nephew Iman Willem Falck (1736-1785) is also notable as he was the governor of Ceylon (currently Sri Lanka) in 1765 and very well respected by other government officials. Iman was instrumental in forcing the monarch of Candi to sign an agreement, known as the Treaty of Batticaloa, wherein he signed away the sovereignty of the coastal lines and ‘kaneellanden’ (‘cinnamon islands’ around Sri Lanka) of Ceylon. VOC-officials were forced out of the city Candi in the 1760’s by the monarch’s forces, but through Iman Falck’s work the power of the VOC in Candi was reinstated.
